Mary Walsh has been a member of MMRT since 2005, and cannot figure out where the time has gone?
She’s a native of Westport and extremely well known around the town which is very handy when you stand beside her shaking a bucket!
She has travelled extensively and lived abroad for years and when she settled back to Westport, joining MMRT was at the top of her list of things to do. She has never regretted a moment of it although she never realised that it would involve swinging off ropes, dangling below a helicopter on a Tuesday afternoon, erecting marquees, and learning all about the electronics involved setting up mobile bases in remote settings.
A true outdoors woman and athlete, she is a mountain goat and keeping up with her is not always easy! She spends her spare time hiking, biking and travelling to enviously exotic places.
As a very experienced physio, she is comfortable with the medical side of things, and gets great satisfaction, caring for patients on the hill. She has served on the committee in many roles including team leader and has enjoyed representing the team and meeting the mountain rescue community both in Ireland and internationally.
