Irene O'Brien has been involved with Mountain Rescue since 2003.
Originally from Wicklow, she began her Mountain Rescue career with the Glen of Imaal team.
She joined the Mayo team in 2012 when she moved to Mayo to work as a Ranger. Irene was our training officer for four years and has had other roles on the team also.
Irene is a District Conservation officer with the National Parks and Wildlife and is a passionate custodian of our natural heritage and biodiversity. In her spare time, Irene is a keen hillwalker, and has climbed all over the world. In Nepal, Patagonia, Alps, Pyrenees, Pico’s and more, and as you can see has major mountain credentials and years of experience as a mountaineer.
She is also an occasional rock climber and loves the snow!
