Shane Maguire has been 30 years on the team! He deserves a big trophy for that fact alone, never mind a medal.
When Shane first joined the team, the members were a mere handful of people, poorly equipped, poorly funded and with no technology to support the efforts.
Bystanders were always drafted in to carry patients on heavy lumpy stretchers which were then stuffed into car boots when not in use. The stretcher that is, not the patients.
Thankfully Shane persisted in offering his valuable time and as a long serving team member, he has consistently given so much effort, expertise, and kindness over the years in a multitude of roles including Team Leader.
Always curious and developing and educating himself, he is a trained counsellor and an excellent communicator, and his soft touch has been invaluable to the team in steering us as a diverse group of humans.
When not on the hill he likes to cycle (okay, electric sometimes!) and usually avoids oncoming traffic. What he enjoys most about being on the team are the friendships and strong sense of purpose that make all the difference to the outcome for our patients.
Will he last another 30 years... let’s wait and see?
